This course examines the state’s role in regulating family and other intimate and caregiving relationships. It is designed around two major areas of law: adult relationships and parent-child relationships. Topics include laws governing marriage, divorce, nontraditional families, domestic violence, reproduction, child custody, and child support. Class materials consist primarily of case law and statutes, but also include media accounts, legal scholarship, and sources from other academic disciplines.
