Alternative Dispute Resolution Team

Course Number: LAW 6930 Credits: 1-4

The Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Team is a student-run competition team at the University of Florida Levin College of Law that trains students in negotiation, mediation, and arbitration. Founded in 2011, the team competes nationwide and holds tryouts for 2L and 3L students each summer. They are coached by faculty and industry professionals, focusing on practical legal skills.  Since most court cases are referred to ADR processes after initial filing, these skills will be used by most attorneys in their first years of practice.

Members of the team may compete in one of a number of competitions, including the ABA Representation in Mediation Competition, ABA Negotiation Competition, ABA Arbitration Competition, Tulane Professional Basketball Negotiation Competition, Brooklyn Law School’s Athlete Endorsement Negotiation Competition, Cardozo CINEMA Competition, among others. Students may receive credit for competing, as well as coaching the competitors and participating in ADR Team leadership. The course is graded on a Satisfactory (S), Unsatisfactory (U) basis. Four credits is the maximum amount allowed for any combination of co-curricular activities, including journals and competition teams.
