Intro to Criminal Prosecution

This one-week, 1-credit course introduces the art and ethics of prosecution. Students learn key practices from the 8th Judicial Circuit to prepare for the Prosecution Field Placement Clinic. They study a criminal case’s lifecycle, develop case preparation skills, and explore courtroom challenges. The course highlights the strategy behind prosecuting cases. Students tackle ethics, examine the criminal justice system’s flaws and biases, and consider the impact of race, gender, and class. They start shaping their professional identity, recognize the need for reform, and gain motivation to create change as future prosecutors.

Corequisites:

• Students must be enrolled in LAW 6942 State Attorney Field Placement in the same semester as they are enrolled in this course.
