UF Law Semester in Practice Program
UF Law’s Semester in Practice program allows students to spend an entire semester during their third year of law school doing an intensive externship in the city of their choice.
Each year, approximately 50 students participate in the program, working across the nation a variety of legal markets and cities, including Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Nashville, and Denver, among many more!
“My trial practice experience flowed directly into my position at the Public Defender’s office, where I was handed clients to represent at preliminary hearings, revocation of probation and parole hearings, and bench warrant hearings. . . . I learned invaluable skills from my supervisors in how to talk to clients, how to work with opposing counsel, how to form relationships with the judiciary, and how to present my case in court.” -Karissa Dzurik (JD 24)
“As a Judicial Intern at the Delaware Court of Chancery, I’ve been trusted to draft orders and opinions and provide the Vice Chancellor with a recommended result. This requires extensive legal research and writing, as well as thinking like a judge. The Vice Chancellor oversees my work and challenges me to become a better lawyer. Delaware is the legal home to more than 1.3 million entities, accounting for approximately two-thirds of all Fortune 500 companies and one-half of all public corporations in the United States. Working here during my Semester in Practice has been a dream come true!” -Daniel Villa (JD 24)
The Semester in Practice program earned the 2018 Group Professionalism Award from The Florida Bar’s Standing Committee on Professionalism in 2018. Learn more about the award and highlights of our program.
