UF Law Professor Thinh Nguyen Appointed to Florida Supreme Court’s Judicial Management Council

Professor Thinh Nguyen, Director of the University of Florida Levin College of Law’s Artificial Intelligence Lab, has been appointed to the new Judicial Management Council of the Florida Supreme Court, where he will serve as advisor to Chief Justice John D. Couriel on administration of the courts, focusing particularly on artificial intelligence.

Appointed to staggered terms by the Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court, members of the 15-member Council are selected from the Florida judiciary, the Florida Bar, and the public to advise the Court on long-term strategic planning related to administration of justice in Florida.

“I am deeply honored to be invited by Justice Couriel to join the Judicial Management Council of Florida,” said Professor Nguyen. “I look forward to contributing to the JMC not only my own expertise but also by tapping into the wealth of knowledge and wisdom on the faculty of the UF Levin College of Law.”

Professor Nguyen has practiced technology law for over 25 years, advising clients at the forefront of artificial intelligence, intellectual property and emerging technologies. He began his career in the Technology Transactions Group at Wilson, Sonsini, where he represented start-ups and leading technology companies in intellectual property transactions. His interest in artificial intelligence expanded while serving as Counsel for Science Commons at Creative Commons, a project embedded within the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Lab at MIT, where he worked alongside leading visionaries behind artificial intelligence. He later joined an artificial intelligence company founded by a prominent MIT researcher.

Before joining UF Law, Professor Nguyen served as Executive General Counsel at GE Digital, where he led legal teams focused on developing and commercializing artificial intelligence, machine learning, and Internet of Things (IoT) applications in aerospace, additive manufacturing, and electrical utilities. He continues to advise on issues involving AI, machine learning, data science, commercialization, privacy and cybersecurity. He earned an A.B. from Harvard College and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.

Scales, III, Chief Judge, Third District Court of Appeal, and The Honorable John D. Couriel, Chief Justice, Florida Supreme Court, as Chair of the Council.
