National Security Law

This course surveys the domestic and international legal frameworks that authorize and limit U.S. national security policies, focusing on developments since September 11, 2001. It explores the balance between liberty and security through substantive and institutional questions. Students will develop an understanding of key national security laws, practice legal analysis and reasoning both in writing and orally, evaluate arguments on all sides of national security debates, and assess the effectiveness and impact of doctrines applied in U.S. courts.
