Duane Daiker serves as a Legal Skills Professor and Director of Advocacy at the Levin College of Law. Drawing on more than three decades of appellate practice and teaching experience, he is dedicated to preparing students to become thoughtful, persuasive, and ethical lawyers.
Before joining the University of Florida, Professor Daiker practiced with Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP for more than 28 years, concentrating on appellate advocacy and complex civil litigation. He continues to serve as Of Counsel to the firm, advising on selected appellate matters.
Professor Daiker is a board-certified appellate specialist who has served as Chair of both the Appellate Practice Section of The Florida Bar and the Appellate Practice Certification Committee. He has also served multiple terms on the Appellate Court Rules Committee, helping shape the development of appellate procedure in Florida.
His scholarship has appeared in the Florida Law Review, the Florida Bar Journal, and other professional publications. He is also the creator and host of the Issues on Appeal podcast.
Professor Daiker earned both his B.A. and J.D., with High Honors, from the University of Florida. While in law school, he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Florida Law Review, was elected to the Order of the Coif, and received the George W. Milam Outstanding Case Comment Award.
