Nicholas J. Christopolis
Legal Skills Professor
Nicholas Christopolis is a Legal Skills Professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law. His scholarship addresses emerging legal issues at the intersection of artificial intelligence and sports and fitness. His most recent article focuses on how flaws in prevailing consent laws, as applied to AI-driven biometric wearables, have a disproportionate impact on historically vulnerable populations. Earlier this year, another article examined the Eighth Circuit’s vacatur of the FTC’s Click-to-Cancel Rule and offered prescriptive compliance strategies for businesses operating on thin margins under increasing regulatory pressure. A related article on the existential crisis of collegiate Olympic sports programs is forthcoming later this year and proposes a revenue sharing and antitrust framework modeled on professional sports business structures. He has independently designed a course centered on the convergence of artificial intelligence and its impact on the sports and fitness industries. He presented on these topics at the Sports Lawyers Association Annual Conference and the Marshall M. Criser Distinguished Lecture Series. He is also the acting Secretary for the AALS Section on Law and Sports.
In addition, Professor Christopolis teaches Legal Writing, Persuasive Writing, Pre-Trial Practice, and Legal Drafting. His teaching is grounded in extensive practice experience at both the trial and appellate level at one of Florida’s largest civil litigation defense law firms. He conveys to students an understanding that bodies of law are shaped by real disputes between real people with risks, costs, and consequences. He has been in academia since 2008 and is passionate about bringing his practice experience into the classroom to prepare the next generation of lawyers.
When he is not in the classroom, he can usually be found trying to keep up with his teenage twins and enjoying the Florida lifestyle participating in running, cycling, and triathlon events.
