First Amendment Lab

The Florida First Amendment Lab, led by Professors Jane Bambauer and Lyrissa Lidsky, convenes law students and undergraduate communications students to create highly accessible and entertaining free speech materials, including short form (TikTok-style) videos, podcasts, citizen’s guides, and policy white papers. Launched in Spring 2026, the Lab serves the public mission of ensuring that the public understands the First Amendment’s protections and limitations, how it applies to new and emerging technology, and how it applies to controversies specific to Floridians. The Lab also provides guidance to state and local governments as they tackle First Amendment issues that do not receive the attention and resources that federal and international policies do.

Student Experience

Lila Greenberg

“What distinguished the First Amendment Lab was its departure from the traditional classroom model. The Lab offered a unique way to engage with the First Amendment. We analyzed First Amendment issues as they exist today and observed how these rights play out in the real world. This experience gave me a fresh perspective on how the First Amendment operates in practice.”
