Professor John A. (Alex) Erwin joins UF Law as an Associate Professor of Law. Combining his legal training with his background as a wildlife biologist, Professor Erwin’s research is situated at the intersection of environmental law, genetics, and conservation biology.

Professor C. Alexander Evans joins Florida Law as an Assistant Professor of Law. His research focuses on Japanese law, trade law, the foundations of private law and on comparative commercial law.

Professor Leandra Lederman joins us as a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Law and Academic Careers Coordinator from Indiana University Maurer School of Law. She is one of the most frequently cited U.S. tax scholars, authoring numerous articles and co-authoring a book on corporate taxation and a book on tax procedure.

Professor Nicholas Christopolis joins UF Law as a Legal Skills Professor with over 20 years of practice experience in insurance defense litigation. He will teach Legal Writing, Persuasive Writing, Pre-Trial Practice, and Legal Drafting.

Professor Madeleine Sligh joins us as a Visiting Lecturer and will serve as the Associate Director of the Immigration Law Clinic. She joins UF Law after six years at the United States Department of Justice in the Executive Office for Immigration Review.

Levin, Mabie & Levin Professor of Law
Professor Gary S. Lawson has authored or co-authored nine editions of a textbook on administrative law, a textbook on constitutional law, five university press books, and more than 100 scholarly articles on topics ranging from constitutional theory to the proof of legal propositions. He has more than 1,200 citations in the last five years, and more than 3,400 lifetime citations, according to Westlaw.

Professor Thinh Nguyen has for 25 years represented entrepreneurs and technology companies. He began his career working with biotech and dot com start-ups at Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati. He has worked as in-house counsel at technology companies including SAP, Nuance Communications, and GE Digital.

Professor Stacy Biggart teaches Legal Writing, Persuasive Writing, Pre-Trial Practice, and Trial Practice. She also serves as a coach for the Florida Trial Team. Professor Biggart is passionate about helping law students develop the skills to be successful litigators.

Visiting Assistant Professor
Professor Erika Isabella Scuderi’s scholarship focuses on the mutual influence and impact of international and domestic taxation on outer space commerce, particularly emphasizing corporate tax aspects. She has authored contributions in the fields of space taxation, European and international taxation, environmental tax law, and Italian tax law, which have been published in peer-reviewed journals and collected editions.

Visiting Lecturer and Director, Heirs’ Property Clinic
Professor Tyler Lattimore joins UF Law after serving as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Colorado. Before becoming an AUSA, Tyler was an associate in the Dallas office of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, where he focused on complex commercial litigation and maintained an active pro bono practice. Tyler also served as a judicial law clerk for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas.

Professor Maru Smith Opabola’s research explores the intersection of race, the First Amendment, and media law, highlighting both the strengths and vulnerabilities of the First Amendment in the context of freedom of the press. Her current scholarship focuses on the impact of media deregulation on the racial diversity of media ownership.

Professor Jerron Wheeler teaches and writes in the areas of poverty, health, and race. His scholarship focuses on issues related to underserved children with disabilities, with an emphasis on public policy solutions. His work has been published in the University of Maryland Law Journal for Race, Religion, Gender & Class and the University of California Journal for Race and Economic Justice.

Professor Ryan Scott is a scholar of criminal law, constitutional law, property law, and treasure law. His current research focuses on the complex constitutional issues with the judicial contempt power as well as constitutional and property law issues surrounding shipwrecks. His most recent article is set to be published in the Dickinson Law Review in the fall of 2024.

Professor Katz joins us from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. As an award-winning legal historian, her research explores the development of family law and criminal law doctrines and institutions, with special attention to the influence of gender, religion, and race.

Professor Bambauer, a leading intellectual property scholar, joins Florida Law from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law. His teaching and research focus on Internet law, patents, and cybersecurity.

Samuel T. Dell Professor of Law
Professor Cook joins Florida Law from the University of Georgia School of Law. His research and teaching interests include evidence, criminal procedure, and criminal law, including the intersection of race and criminal law and procedure.

Professor of Law and Brechner Eminent Scholar Chair, College of Journalism and Communications
Professor Bambauer, a leading First Amendment scholar and teacher, with a particular focus on privacy and technology, joins Florida Law from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law. Her research assesses the social costs and benefits of Big Data and how new information technologies affect free speech, privacy, and competitive markets.

Professor Kaufman joins Florida Law from the University of Houston Law Center. He focuses on international law, transitional justice, and criminal law, among other topics. He is currently working on his fourth book, which explores the law and politics of bystanders and upstanders.

Professor Johnson joins Florida Law from Pennsylvania State University, University Park. His multimethodological research focuses on how judges make decisions, the consequences of judicial decision-making, and the normative implications of judicial processes.

Professor Kim joins Florida Law after clerking in Miami for Judge Barbara Lagoa of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Professor Kim is an empirical scholar who focuses on criminal law and criminal procedure.

Haley joins Florida Law from University of Virginia School of Law. He writes and teaches about the intersection of law and technology, particularly matters of privacy.

Professor Eng joins UF Law after practicing at the firm of Mrachek, Fitzgerald, Rose, Konopka, Thomas & Weiss, P.A. in Stuart, Florida. She previously practiced at Carlton Fields, clerked for United States Magistrate Judge James M. Hopkins, and served as both an Assistant Attorney General and an Assistant State Attorney. She will teach first-year legal writing.

Professor Hawkins joins Florida Law from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at UF’s College of Design, Construction, and Planning, where he served as an Instructional Assistant Professor. He studies land use regulations, regulatory powers, and regulatory processes. He will lead the Environmental and Community Development Clinic.

Professor Kolinsky joins Florida Law from Washington and Lee University School of Law. She previously clerked for United States Magistrate Judge Gregory J. Kelly and practiced appellate law in Florida. She will teach first-year legal writing.

Professor Hwang joins Florida Law from the University of Virginia School of Law where she is the Barron F. Black Research Professor of Law and the Director of the John W. Glynn Jr. Law & Business Program. A leading business law scholar, her research focuses on mergers and acquisitions, corporate contracts, and corporate governance.

Professor Ritchie joins Florida Law from Southern Illinois University School of Law where she is an Assistant Professor of Law. Her research focuses on the social utility of intellectual property ownership and enforcement and on the creation and enforcement of intellectual property rights.

Peter T. Fay Jurist-in-Residence
Judge John L. Badalamenti is a United States District Judge for the Middle District of Florida and a former judge on Florida’s Second District Court of Appeal. In his role as the Peter T. Fay Jurist-In-Residence, Judge Badalamenti will co-teach a seminar, Advanced Constitutional Theory: Originalism and its Foes. Working year-round from chambers, Judge Badalamenti will develop and facilitate student-focused programs, bringing distinguished federal and Florida state jurists together to expound upon Originalism and other methods of constitutional interpretation.

Professor LoPucki, a nationally recognized expert in corporate and commercial law, joined Florida Law from UCLA Law where he taught Secured Transactions and Business Associations for 22 years. Professor LoPucki has published more than seventy-five articles in highly regarded law reviews and co-authors three Aspen casebooks.

Raymond & Miriam Ehrlich Chair in U.S. Constitutional Law
Professor Maclin, a nationally recognized expert in Constitutional Criminal Procedure, Constitutional Law, and the U.S. Supreme Court, joined Florida Law from Boston University School of Law. His scholarship focuses on the Fourth Amendment and the Self-Incrimination Clause of the Fifth Amendment. He has published many law review articles and book chapters on constitutional criminal procedure topics.

Raymond & Miriam Ehrlich Chair in U.S. Constitutional Law
Professor Lidsky’s scholarship includes a leading Media Law casebook, a First Amendment casebook, a reference book on press freedom, and dozens of articles, including a recent article on threats in social media. She is also co-reporter of the American Law Institute’s Restatement of Defamation and Privacy. Her work on anonymous speech has been cited by a number of state supreme courts and the highest courts of Canada and Hong Kong.

Levin, Mabie & Levin Professor of Law
Professor Marshfield teaches and writes in the areas of local government law, state constitutional law, and constitutional change. His state constitutional law research has been cited by the New Jersey Supreme Court, and his research analyzing constitutional change has been cited by leading scholars in law reviews, textbooks, and academic journals.

Professor Jiang analyzes the regulation of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, FinTech, blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies, and central bank digital currencies. Her scholarship has been published in multiple law reviews and peer-reviewed journals in the United States, China, and Europe.

Professor Hampson is a scholar of bankruptcy, insolvency, and the ethics of debt. His research focuses on how legal institutions can best serve our shared values during times of financial distress. His scholarship has been published in highly regarded journals and cited by federal district and appellate courts, as well as two state supreme courts.

Professor Caballero leads our Immigration Clinic. He previously served as an Acting Assistant Professor of Lawyering at NYU Law and worked as a staff attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois.

Professor Erez-Navot leads our Mediation Clinic. She has years of service as a mediator and in leading mediation clinics, including at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where she served as Assistant Director of the Kukin Program for Conflict Resolution, and at University of Wisconsin Law School, where she established numerous mediation and child protection programs.

Professor Wheeler leads our new Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic after serving as a tax associate at Andreozzi Bluestein LLP in Clarence, New York. Before entering private practice, Professor Wheeler worked for the Erie County Bar Association Volunteer Lawyers Project, where he served as the Qualified Tax Expert for their Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic.

Professor Brennen, a Professor at University of Kentucky Rosenberg College of Law, analyzes the intersections of tax law and nonprofit law. He is the co-author of one of the first law school casebooks on the taxation of nonprofit organizations.

Professor Pritchard, the Frances and George Skestos Professor of Law at the University of Michigan Law School, focuses his research on securities class actions, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) enforcement, and the history of securities law in the U.S. Supreme Court.

Love, Jr. Endowed Professor at West Virginia University College of Law, is a scholar of environmental law, climate change, renewable energy, and regulated industries. Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey recently appointed Professor Van Nostrand as Chair of the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities.
